Our National Mutt Day Facebook contest was a great excuse for us to ask to see pictures of all your cute doggies—and it worked! Thank you to everyone (and every dog) who participated. At Animal Care Hospital, we all have a special place in our heart for mutts, partly because they are of course, dogs, but also because each hybrid dog is unique in their own special way.

One of the fun things about seeing mutts is when pet owners scratch their heads and simply guess as to what breed their best friend is. And while sometimes it may be obvious to see that a certain dog clearly is part Pitbull, you can honestly never really tell.

Darwin’s Dogs, a program run out of the Broad Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, conducted the Mutt Mix Project Survey, which had participants look at 31 cute doggies and try to guess their heritage. The goal was to observe the results of this survey to help them better understand how “people evaluate and perceive mixed-breed dogs.”

If you think you’ve got eagle eyes and can easily spot a Doberman-chiweenie-boxer mix, we encourage you to take the Mutt Mix Pup Quiz, just for fun!

If you’re still not convinced, just think of it this way—you could spend your day doing something else, looking at Instagram or Facebook or whatever—OR you could just look at 31 pictures of dogs. Your call.

Thanks again to everyone who participated in our National Mutt Day contest!
